Imposing and robust, the moose is the largest deer species. It is recognized by its massive build, long legs, and especially by its broad, flat antlers, which can reach up to two meters in span in males. Found in forests and marshy areas of North America, Europe, and Asia, it is perfectly adapted to cold climates.
A herbivore, the moose feeds on leaves, twigs, bark, and aquatic plants, which it seeks out even in lakes and rivers. Surprisingly, it is an excellent swimmer and can travel long distances in water to feed or escape danger. In autumn, males clash during the rut, locking their antlers in impressive battles.
