Hermit crab figurine

With its protective shell and large claws, the hermit crab is a small crustacean that is as fascinating as it is endearing. It can be found on beaches, rocky coasts, and even in shallow seabed environments.

Interestingly, unlike true crabs, the hermit crab does not have a hard carapace on its abdomen. To protect itself, it takes up residence in empty gastropod shells, changing them as it grows. This behavior makes it a true "sea tenant," always on the lookout for a new home. Some live in colonies, which allows them to exchange or "negotiate" shells between individuals!
