Walrus Figurine

With its long ivory tusks and massive body, the walrus is one of the most iconic marine mammals of the Arctic. It can be found on ice floes and icy beaches, where it lives in large groups called "herds."

Amazing fact: its tusks, which can reach a meter in length, are used for defense, to impress rivals, and also to help it pull itself back onto the ice. An excellent diver, the walrus can descend to 80 meters deep to feed on shellfish, clams, and crustaceans, which it sucks up with its powerful mouth. Its thick layer of fat, called "blubber," allows it to withstand the extreme cold of the polar seas.
