An extraordinary bird, the Phoenix sports a shimmering plumage, a mix of red, blue and gold, giving it the appearance of a firebird. It is said that there can only be one at a time and that it lives for over 500 years. Unable to reproduce, when the Phoenix feels its end approaching, it builds a nest out of aromatic branches and incense, which it then sets on fire. Thus, it consumes itself in the flames, before being reborn from its ashes.
