The Cave Bear lived in Europe and Asia around 30,000 years ago, during the last ice age. Larger than today's brown bears, it could reach 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) tall on its hind legs.
Interestingly, despite its formidable appearance, it was primarily herbivorous. It sometimes shared caves with early humans, who left paintings and traces of its presence.
