In ancient Rome, gladiators were professional fighters who dueled in predetermined pairs. The gladiator PAPO has all the characteristics of a "hoplomachus" who fought with a dagger or a short spear and protected himself with a helmet and a small round shield. He fought in the arena against the "murmillo" and sometimes the "Thracian."
